Govt working to ensure sustainable development: Farzana Sharmin
NATORE, June 5, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Social Welfare Barrister Farzana Sharmin today said the government is working to ensure the country's sustainable development by building a strong foundation for progress from the grassroots level.
"We want to continue moving the country forward on the path of sustainable development over the next five years with the same momentum and commitment. To achieve this goal, the foundation of development is being built from the grassroots level across the country," she said.
She made the remarks while addressing a foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of the Lalpur Bazar Development and WASH Block project in Natore this evening as the chief guest.
Farzana Sharmin noted that the government has already waived agricultural loans of up to Taka 10,000 for farmers as part of its election pledges.
More than Taka 12,500 crore in agricultural loans has been waived nationwide, she added.
She said the Family Card programme, a key commitment in the election manifesto, has been launched, while an Agriculture Card has also been introduced. Steps have been taken to bring religious leaders under a government salary scheme, and canal excavation activities have begun across the country.
"The government is committed to implementing all election pledges in phases," she added.
Lalpur Bazar Traders' Association President Majdar Rahman chaired the ceremony.
Former Lalpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Harunur Rashid Pappu and former Mayor of Gopalpur Municipality Nazrul Islam Molam also spoke at the event among others.
Earlier, the state minister distributed prizes among winners of the Clemon Lalpur Cricket Tournament at the Lalpur Degree College ground.
