Boro paddy, rice procurement drive launched in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, May 25, 2026 (BSS) - The government's Boro paddy and rice procurement drive was launched in the district on Sunday amid enthusiasm among farmers and stakeholders.

An inaugural ceremony was held in the afternoon on the premises of the Sadar Upazila Food Supply Depot in the town, with Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Lokman Hossain in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Masuder Rahman Mollah attended the programme as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the drive by purchasing paddy from farmers.

In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner urged officials and employees of the food department to ensure procurement from farmers in line with government directives and without any irregularities.

Speaking to BSS, District Controller of Food M. Mizanur Rahman said that a total of 26,000 tonnes of Boro paddy and 9,500 tonnes of boiled rice would be procured from farmers and millers respectively during the current season.

He said the procurement price has been fixed at Tk 49 per kilogram for rice and Tk 36 per kilogram for paddy.

The food department will carry out procurement through 12 centres across the district, he added.

Upazila-level officials, invited guests and farmers were present at the event.
