DHAKA, June 5, 2026(BSS) - State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul
Haque has said a modern sports complex will be constructed on thirteen acres
of land in North Patenga, Chattogram.
He said the government is implementing multifaceted programmes to provide
professional recognition to sports, keep the younger generation away from
drug abuse and excessive technology dependence, and build a healthy, talented
and sports-friendly nation.
The state minister made the remarks while inaugurating the Shaheed Zia
Memorial Open Gold Cup Football Tournament at Shaheed Shahjahan Ground in
Pahartali, Chattogram, as the chief guest.
State Minister for Information Yeaser Khan Chowdhury, MP, and State Minister
for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad
Helal Uddin attended the event as special guests.
Aminul Haque said that, to ensure the financial and social security of
talented athletes, the government has already provided sports allowances and
sports cards to three hundred national-level sportspersons. The programme
will gradually be expanded to cover a total of five hundred athletes.
He noted that the sports card initiative is designed to ensure healthcare
services, insurance coverage and social security benefits for athletes.
The state minister also said that sports remain one of the most effective
means of keeping children and adolescents away from excessive use of mobile
phones and other digital devices.
"Participation in sports not only helps children remain physically fit but
also contributes to their mental development and protects them from drug
abuse and various forms of social degradation," he said.
He further mentioned that the government has launched the 'Notun Kuri Sports'
programme, which provides equal opportunities for boys and girls age 12 to 14
to participate in sports. This initiative is helping identify and develop
talented young athletes from different regions of the country.
