DHAKA, June 4, 2026 (BSS) - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has assured Bangladesh of all possible cooperation in the energy sector.

The assurance was given today by UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Ali AlHamoudi, during a meeting with Aninda Islam Amit, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

During the meeting, both sides discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.

The state minister said the UAE has historically been one of Bangladesh’s major and reliable sources of crude oil and petroleum product imports.

He reiterated the importance of bringing these supplies under a “Bangladesh First” policy framework to help the country withstand global fuel price hikes and sudden market shocks.

He also informed the ambassador about Bangladesh’s priorities regarding the expansion of liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade, avoiding volatility in the spot market, modernizing the country’s power and energy grids, reducing carbon emissions, developing automated substations, and establishing energy bunkering facilities near ports.

In particular, the state minister highlighted the UAE’s efforts to establish itself as a hub for green hydrogen production and expressed Bangladesh’s interest in receiving investment and technical assistance to convert fertilizer factories and heavy steel industries from natural gas-based operations to green hydrogen or green ammonia.

The UAE ambassador reaffirmed his government’s interest in the development and expansion of Bangladesh’s power and energy sectors and assured all forms of cooperation.

Ambassador Abdullah Ali AlHamoudi also expressed strong commitment to taking the historic partnership between the two countries to a new level.

Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam and Power Division Secretary Mirana Mahrukh were present, among others.
