Arfield's stoppage-time double sees Rangers down Aberdeen

GLASGOW, Dec 21, 2022 (BSS/AFP) - Scott Arfield scored twice in stoppage time as Rangers recorded a remarkable 3-2 win away to Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership on Tuesday.

Rangers, desperately clinging on to arch Glasgow rivals and leaders Celtic at the top of the table, went ahead at Pittodrie thanks to Fashion Sakala's 12th-minute goal.

But Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin, heavily criticised for the Dons' defensive display in a 1-0 defeat by Celtic last weekend, saw the home side hit back in style.

Luis 'Duk' Lopes beat Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor with a free-kick from 20 yards and midfielder Leighton Clarkson, on loan from Liverpool, made it 2-1 in fine style in the 53rd minute.

Aberdeen still led with 90 minutes on the clock only for an extended period of additional time to prove decisive.

In the fifth of seven added minutes, substitute Arfield equalised when he pounced on a rebound after Dons goalkeeper Kelle Roos fumbled a 25-yard drive from Ryan Kent.

And moments later the Gers midfielder bundled in the winner from close range just seconds before the final whistle to move Rangers six points behind champions Celtic.
