DHAKA, Dec 13, 2022 (BSS) - The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) of police arrested Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh ameer Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman Shafique conducting a raid in Basundhara residential area of the capital on Monday night.

CTTC Chief Additional Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman confirmed his arrest, saying he has been apprehended on charges of his involvement in militancy.

Shafique was shown arrested filled in a case against his son under the Anti-Terrorism Act, he said.

Earlier, on November 9, his son Dr Rafat Sadiq Saifullah alias Dr Rafat Chowdhury was arrested from Sylhet by the bomb disposal unit of CTTC.

According to CTTC sources, Rafat was the chief coordinator of Sylhet region of the outlawed militant organization Ansar Al Islam.

On November 1, three members of the organization were arrested in a raid in the capital's Sayedabad area.

During interrogation, the arrestees admitted that each of them was invited by Rafat.

According to various sources including police, and detectives, Shafiqur Rahman passed MBBS from Sylhet Medical College.
