Hasan urges all to protect the earth and control its temperature

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 12, 2022 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud called upon the people of the world to come forward to protect the earth against the  bad effect of carbon-dioxide and control its temperature.
 
Dr Hasan said the temperature is increasing only due to activities of the people.
 
“If 3.35 degree celcious temperature increases the earth will become difficult for living of people after 50 years. In this context I congratulate the University and Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) to be the first university in the country among all government and non government universities to announce the Race to Zero Carbon of USTC Campus by 2025,” he added.
 
Dr Hasan, also joint general secretary of AL, said these as chief guest in the inaugural function of Department of Renewable Energy Engineering and Management (REEM) of USTC held at Radission Blu Chattogram this evening.
 
Mentioning himself as the student of environmental science Dr Hasan said when any institution or any organization announces they would become zero emission of carbon it is great pleasure for him.
 
“Since the industrial revulation the temperature of the earth has increased by 1.1 degree celcious. We have seen the devastation of heat wave in Saiberia and different parts of Europe. Pakistan has never witnessed devastating flood situation which hit it recently. All these are the climatic events happened just because of increasing 1.1 degree celcious of temperature.  The big devastation is waiting for earth, if we can not control the temperature in future ” he said.
 
Vice chancellor of USTC Dr Jahangir Alam read-out the keynote paper in the function while Ahmed Iftakharul Islam, board of trustee chairman of USTC, presided over the function.
 
Dr Sheikh Morsheeda Noor, member of USTC trustee, Profesor Dr Abdur Razzak, Trustee member Abdus Salam and Principal Dr AMM Etheshamul Hoque, among others, addressed the function.
 
Later, a MOU signed between Australia-Bangladesh Solar Power Limited and USTC.
 
Under this agreement, the country's largest solar panel manufacturer jointly owned by Australia-Bangladesh will fully cooperate with the USTC to implement the 'race to zero carbon' by 2025.
