Dhaka-Cox's bazar railway to start operation from June next: Sujan

COX'S BAZAR, Dec 8, 2022 (BSS) - Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan today said that communication activities on Dohajari-Cox's bazar railway route will begin from June 2023.

"Once a dream is on its way to becoming a reality. People from all over the country are waiting to visit tourist city of Cox's Bazar by train," the railway minister told newsmen after inspecting the Cox's Bazar station and Dohazari-Cox's Bazar new railway line construction project, said a release.

"About 80 percent of the work has been completed. It is expected that rest of the work will be completed by June next year," Sujan said.

"There will be high-quality coaches similar to tourist coaches for Cox's Bazar. Under a new project, another 54 coaches will be purchased," the minister added.
 
He then visited the various floors of the under construction iconic station building of Cox's Bazar.

Project Construction Officials said that the construction of the station building will be completed by the month of April. Already 60 km railway line has been completed.

A total of 100 km single line dual gauge railway is being constructed from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar. The entire project consists of 39 major bridges and 242 culverts, said the release.

Underpasses and overpasses are being constructed for the movement of elephants. 

The railway line will connect with the Trans Asian Railway for a better and low cost transportation facility for fish, salt, rubber, raw materials and agricultural products.
