Terrorist attack on poet Saroj Dev protested at BRUR

RANGPUR, Dec 6, 2022 (BSS) - Literary and Cultural workers of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) today organized a human chain in front of the university’s main gate protesting a terrorist attack on Poet and Editor Saroj Dev.
 
Dean of the Faculty of Arts of BRUR Professor Dr. Tuhin Wadud presided over a discussion arranged in the human chain.
 
Professor of the Department of Bengali of BRUR Dr. Rishin Parimal, its Associate Professor Dr. Shafiq Ashraf, Associate Professor of the Department of Bengali of Jagannath University Rahel Rajib, students Sanjay Chowdhury, Mejbaur Rahman, Abir and Raisul also spoke.
 
Student Sanjay Poonik of the Department of Chemistry of the BRUR moderated the programme.
 
Addressing the occasion, the speakers demanded safety of poet Saroj Dev and immediate speedy trial of the arrested criminals.
 
They said Saroj Dev was at home in Gaibandhda district town last Friday (December 2) when some terrorists came there and demanded that they had to get money from his son.
 
After Saroj Dev said he did not know about the matter, the terrorists mercilessly attacked him.
 
At one stage, the terrorists tried to hit Saroj Dev at his head with an iron rod. Attempting to block the hit with his hands, the hit bruised his hands and injured him caused bleeding.
 
They said poet Saroj Dev complained to the police station and police arrested the terrorists.
 
Professor Dr. Tuhin Wadud said poet Saroj Dev is the Editor of a little magazine titled "Shabda".
 
“Saroj Dev has so far published 55 editions of the magazine in addition to publishing his six books of poetry and writing a few essay books,” he added.
