Reluctance to receive land in Purbachal 'not true': DU

DHAKA, Oct 26, 2022 (BSS) - The Dhaka University authorities gave its clarification over Purbachal issue saying that "Parliamentary standing committee's remarks on DU's reluctance to receive the 52-acre site at Purbachal" is not true.

"The university authorities, through newspapers, came to know a recommendation made to allocate 10 acres of land from the proposed DU 2nd campus site in Purbachal to the cultural ministry where they claimed that "DU showed unwillingness to receive the land", which is completely false," said a university press release.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman has already sent an application to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the education ministry seeking her directives to the relevant office to finalise the allocation of the 52-acre site at Purbachal for the university, said the release.

A parliamentary standing committee on Tuesday recommended the government to allocate 10 acres of land from the proposed DU 2nd campus site in Purbachal to the cultural ministry saying, "Dhaka University showed reluctance to receive the 52-acre site."

According to the press release, initiatives have been taken to prepare a concept paper and conduct a feasibility study to build its second campus dedicated for research activities 'Dhaka University Research and Innovation Campus' in Purbachal.

Spreading this kind of false and misleading news can create confusion among the public, including the teachers and students of the university, said the release, adding, "In this regard, the university authorities are expecting cooperation from all concerned including the Parliamentary Standing Committee to bring an end to such confusion."
