KU VC for huge research to save nature, environment

KHULNA, Oct 19, 2022 (BSS)-Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University (KU) Professor Dr Mahmud Hossain today stressed the need for conducting more research to save nature and environment from harmful effects of echo-toxicology.

He also urged the researchers and scientists for new innovation and to give directions by joining researches on echo-toxicology, environmental science and concerned subjects.

The VC said these at the inauguration session of a two-day “Echo toxicology and Environmental Science” bilateral International Conference at Acharya Jagadish Chandra Basu academic building in the KU as chief guest.

Professor Dr Hasan, also chief patron of the International Conference, said there is no alternative of pollution free nature to ensure healthy life as well as green environment.

The environmental nature of Bangladesh and India is nearly same as the two neighbouring countries are situated in the same geographical region, the VC said, adding that there are huge opportunities to work together.

Jointly organized by voluntary organization BEDS and Institute of Echo-toxicology and Environmental Science of India (IEESI), the KU VC also screened power point presentation styled ‘Is The Sundarbans of Bangladesh in a state of population,’ as the key note speaker.

In his key note paper, the KU VC narrated that the natural flourishing opportunity of the Sundarbans is necessary, if it does not possible biodiversity preservation will face various challenges.

Describing variation of salinity in the Sundarbans for last 20 years, the VC said now it is the appropriate time to find out materials of mud and water standard of the Sundarbans.

Dean of the Life Science School of KU Professor Khan Golam Quddus addressed the seminar as special guest with Dr Sharmila Paul, president of IEESI and chairperson of the International conference organizing committee was in the chair.

Dr Sarder Shafiqul Islam, professor of Agro technology Discipline of KU who is also the convener of Bangladesh chapter of the organizing committee delivered the welcome speech while chief executive officer of BEDS Md Maksudur Rahman and convener of Indian chapter of the organizing committee and secretary of IEESI Dr Debbrota Mukharjee, among others, addressed.

A total of 130 researchers from different universities and institutions of Bangladesh, India and Italy are participating in the two-day conference. Researchers from South Africa are participating in the conference virtually.

Over one hundred theses are expected to be presented in 10 sessions of the conference.
