DHAKA, Sept 19, 2022 (BSS) - Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif today urged BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to seek an unconditional apology to the nation for his statement 'Pakistan was much better than the present Bangladesh'.

"By making this statement, Mirza Fakhrul has proved that he believes in the ideals of Pakistan and insulted 30 lakh martyrs (of the Liberation War) and the freedom fighters," he said. 

Hanif made the remarks while addressing the triennial council of Sutrapur Thana and 42, 43 and 44 no wards units of Dhaka City South Awami League.

None will be allowed to do politics of Pakistani ideals in Bangladesh, he said, adding, "You should seek unconditional apology, otherwise the people of the country will give befitting reply on the streets to your love towards Pakistan".

Urging BNP to shun falsehood and complaints, the AL joint general secretary said BNP leaders and activists are often locked into intra party conflict and make the AL scapegoat.

Though AL does not obstruct programmes of any political party, BNP blames the AL to this end, Hanif said.

"We don't make impediment for anyone. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked not to obstruct the peaceful programmes of any party. (But) law enforcement agencies will take action if anyone makes arson attacks in the name of agitation," he added.

AL doesn't do the politics of killings, Hanif said, adding, "You (BNP) are habituated to this (politics)".

Mentioning that BNP was in state power from 2001 to 2006, he said, 26,000 leaders and activists of AL were killed during their regime. 

Dhaka City South Awami League President and valiant freedom fighter Abu Ahmed Mannafi inaugurated the council while AL Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, Legal Affairs Secretary Advocate Najibullah Hiru, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua and Dhaka City South Awami League General Secretary Humayun Kabir spoke at the programme, among others.
