DHAKA, Sept 19, 2022 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) has finalized a Taka 8,711.44 crore project for procurement of fresh 2 lakh electronic voting machines (EVMs), repairing and maintenance of existing ones for the next parliamentary election.

Following an EC meeting, Election Commissioner Md Alamgir told reporters that a project proposal would be sent to the Planning Commission.

He said the commission has decided to hold polls in EVM in maximum 150 parliamentary seats.

"At present, the commission has capability to hold polls in EVM at 70 seats. So, the Election Commission needs more EVMs or equipment to hold election in 150 seats," he said.

Alamgir said the EC would have to hold a meeting with the concerned ministry over manpower for holding the national polls.
