Razzaque for bringing artificial crisis creators under trial

MYMENSINGH, Sept 19, 2022 (BSS) - Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque
today emphasized on bringing the artificial crisis creators under trial
instead of fixing the prices of agricultural goods.

"I think, it's not necessary to fix the price of the goods rather the
artificial crisis creators should be identified and brought under the law as
well," he said, replying to a question from journalists before joining a
workshop at Mymensingh Town Hall here.

Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) and the Department of Agricultural
Extension (DAE) jointly organised the workshop on the incorporation of oil
crops into existing crops and increasing the production of high-yielding
varieties of rice with Agriculture Secretary Md Sayedul Islam in the chair.

The minister said, "We can give an indicator that the price of agri produces
should not be above a specific price lap. But the market must be strictly
monitored and controlled".

The mill owners, who try to make huge profits by suddenly raising prices,
should be brought to book and their licenses should be cancelled, Razzaque,
also Awami League presidium member, added.

Speaking about BNP's movements, he said in 2014, BNP carried out riots across
the country for three consecutive months in the name of agitations, including
arson attacks, vandalizing cars and burning people.

But they could not yield any outcome and Khaleda Zia returned home with a
bow-down head and face, the AL leader added.

Even still now they could not yield any result by creating chaos through
provocative and disorderly activities, he said, adding that people will
resist them.

Speaking at the workshop, the agriculture minister said, "The uncertainty of
Aman production has been over. If there is no natural calamity, Aman
production may be higher than the last year".

About the forecast given by different organizations that the global food
crisis and the number of hungry people will increase in the coming days,
Razzaque said that the present government is on right track to tackle the
food crisis.

Mentioning that the country didn't face any food crisis in the last 13 years,
even during the Covid-19 pandemic, he said, "We are emphasizing on increasing
food production so the country does not face any problem in the days to
come".
