Police Freedom Fighters Memorial Museum opens in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Sept 13, 2022 (BSS) - A Police Freedom Fighters Memorial Museum has been opened here aimed at letting the present and future generations know about their greatest contribution and supreme sacrifice of the great sons of the soil during the War of Liberation.
 
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) established the museum at its police line compound.
 
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, formally inaugurated the museum through cutting ribbon today as chief guest.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Senior Secretary of the ministry Akhter Hossain, Commissioner of Rajshahi division GSM Zafarullah, Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Baten, RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Abdul Jalil and Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain were present on the occasion.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said more than one hundred policemen were martyred in Rajshahi region during the War of Liberation. Bangladesh will never forget their supreme sacrifice.
 
The inaugural ceremony was told that the then DIG Mamun Mahmud and the then SP Shah Abdul Mazid were killed by Pakistani military on the initial stage of the war in Rajshahi and the countrymen would never forget the sacrifice of police during the War of Liberation.

He also mentioned the spirit of the War of Liberation should be highlighted before the new generation.
 
Shah Abdul Mazid joined as Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rajshahi on August 15, 1970.
 
On March 29, Pakistani military attempted to take control over the Rajshahi police lines. Then police led by the SP had resisted them. More than 50 policemen had been martyred in the battle.
 
On March 31, the Pakistani military forcibly took away SP Mazid from the banglow of Deputy Commissioner and since then he has remained missing.
 
Police personnel had forged armed resistance against the first attack of the Pakistani military at the starting stage of the war.
