Speaker mourns death of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2022 (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch.

In a message of condolence, the Speaker conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved members of the British Royal family and prayed for salvation
of the departed soul of the queen.

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral palace in Scotland during UK's local time on Thursday evening at the age of 96, after reigning for 70 years. The 96-years old queen had been suffering from health complications since October last.

The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on April 21, 1926. She came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Liz Truss, born 101 years later in 1975, and appointed by the Queen earlier this week.
