DB arrests four people for kidnapping DU female student in Turag

DHAKA, Sept 4, 2022 (BSS)-The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested four people along with weapons for their alleged involvement in kidnapping a Dhaka University female student and snatching her belongings in Turag.

The arrested people were identified as-Md Shakil Ahmed Rubel, Md Akash Sheikh, Delwar Hossain and Md Habibur Rahman.

A DB team of Uttara Division carried out a special operation in various areas of Dhaka district including the capital and arrested them yesterday. They also recovered a foreign pistol, two rounds of bullet, a magazine, a wireless set, two motorcycles with police stickers and six stolen mobile phones from their possessions.

Addressing a press briefing at DMP media centre today DMP Additional Commissioner of the DB Md Harun-or-Rashid told the reporters that at noon on August 25 a student of Dhaka University (DU) got down from a DU bus at Kallyanpur bus stand to go to her house.
“After going few yards from the bus stand, an unknown motorcyclist identifying himself as police took her on his motorcycle claiming to take her to police station from Shahi Masjid area,” he said.

Harun said but he (motorcyclist) took her to a remote area at Diabari and took away her chain, ear rings and varsity documents issuing threats.

A case was filed with Turag police station on that day in this regard.

The DB chief said that soon after the case, a team of the DB started investigation into the case side by side Thana Police.

“Later, locations of the snatchers were identified with the help of intelligence and technology and the DB team finally arrested them,” Harun added.

He said the arrested Shakil alias Rubel was roaming by a stolen motorcycle labeling police sticker with a wireless set at university and college areas, adding, “Rubel targeted the university and school-college students for snatching their valuables at gun point.”

“When a student was alone on the street, snatcher Rubel was taken to a secluded place on his motorcycle intimidating about illegal drugs with him or her. Then he snatched valuables and behaved indecently,” the DB chief said.

He said that so far he committed more than 1500 robberies and more than 50 acts of indecent behaviors to innocent victims.
Harun said that another case under Arms Act has been registered against the arrested people with Adabar police. The arrested people were sent to the court seeking remand.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shafiqul Alam.
