JU observes 92nd birth anniversary of Bangamata

SAVAR, Aug 08, 2022 (BSS)- The 92nd birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed today at Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus with due respect and befitting manner.

To mark the day, the university authorities organised daylong programmes on the campus.

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Nurul Alam paid homage by placing wreath at the portrait of Bangamata at Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall premises around 11.00 am.
Later, Provost of Bangamata Begum Fajilatunnesa Mujib Hall Professor M Mujibur Rahman along with the officials of the hall administration placed wreath and stood in front of the portrait of Begum Mujib with solemn.

After placing the wreath, JU VC Prof Nurul Alam said “Bangamata was Bangabandhu's main inspiration. She lived a very simple life. Bangamata's contribution to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman becoming Bangabandhu and father of the nation was immense. We remember the noble woman with gratitude on her birthday.”

JU Treasurer Prof Rasheda Akhtar, JU Proctor A S M Firoj Ul Hasan, JU Registrar Rahima Kaneez, Dean of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences faculty Prof Ajit Kumar Majumdar, Secretary of Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (JUTA) Prof Motaher Hossain, Secretary of Bangabandhu Shikkok Parishad Prof Khalid Kuddus, Director of Wazed Miah Science Research Centre Prof Dr. A A Mamun, Director of JU Teacher-Student Centre Prof. Dr. Mohammad Alamgir Kabir, President of Provost Standing Committee Prof Abdullah Hel Kafi, provosts of different dormitories and other teachers of the university were present, among others.

Besides, a special doa mahfil was arranged at the hall premises to mark the day.
Earlier, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University unit also arranged various programmes marking the day.

Leaders and activists of JU BCL led by its President Akhtaruzzaman Sohel and General Secretary Habibur Rahman Liton paid homage by placing floral wreath at the portrait of Bangamatha at the same venue at 11.30 am.

Later, they organized a milad mahfil and special prayer at Bangamatha Hall premises and distributed food among the underprivileged children and rickshaw pullers around 1.00 pm.
