Five placed two days remand for assaulting CU female student

 
CHATTOGRAM, July 26, 2022 (BSS)-A Chattogram Court today granted two days remand for five youths including two students of Chattogram University (CU) over sexual assaulting case filed by a CU female student with Hathazari Thana.

The court of Judicial Magistrate Farjana Yasmin passed the order after hearing the statement of Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Mizanur Rahman who sought a 7-day remand for interrogating the arrestees, said Ruhul Amin Sabuj, Officer-in-Charge of Hathajari thana.

The accused are Mohammad Azim, 23, a second-year student of the History Department of CU, Nurul Absar alias Babu, 22, a second year student of the Anthropology Department, Nur Hossain alias Shaon, 22 and Masud Rana alias Masud, 22, both are first year students Hathajari Government College and Saiful Islam, a second year student of the same college.

Earlier, the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five youths from different areas of the university including Shah Amanat Hall for their alleged involvement in assaulting a female student of CU on Friday and Saturday night.

A female student was physically assaulted by the youths, which sparked protests on the campus, while she was going to Botanical Garden from Pritilata Hall with her friend around 10 pm on July 17.

The arrested persons had also captured a naked video of the student and threatened to make it viral.

According to the allegation by the victim, a five-member probe committee has already been formed to investigate the matter by the CU authority.

A complaint was also lodged with Hathazari Thana over the incident.

Since hundreds of CU students have been staging protests, holding human chains every day on the campus demanding punishment to the persons responsible for assaulting the female student.
