Spanish envoy pays courtesy call on President

DHAKA, July 21, 2022 (BSS) - Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh Francisco De Asis Benitez Salas paid a courtesy call on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this evening.

At this time, the envoy handed over a greeting letter to the President from the King of Spain on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Spain, President's Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS.

The King of Spain mentioned in the letter that the relationship between the two countries has a strong foundation based on mutual cooperation and partnership.

The King said the relationship between the two countries is progressing through upholding the human rights, democracy and mutual values.

Spain and Bangladesh would work together to tackle various global challenges, including climate change and Covid-19 pandemic, he hoped.

The Ambassador stressed on the high-level visits exchange between the two countries to explore the existing potentials of the two countries in various sectors, including infrastructure and trade-investment.

Noting that Spain is one of Bangladesh's development partners, President Hamid said the bilateral cooperation between the two states in the trade and tourism sectors will be further expanded in days to come.

The head of state hoped that Spain would continue to put pressure on Myanmar to ensure dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas to their motherland in Maynmar.

The President thanked the Government of Spain for their cooperation in publishing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's unfinished memoir in Spanish language.

President Hamid expressed profound shock and sorrow at the casualties and damages caused by the fires due to the heat wave in various European countries including Spain.

The secretaries concerned of Bangabhaban were present there.
