Students’ dropout rising from primary to tertiary level:Fakhrul Imam tells JS

DHAKA, June 30,2022 (BSS) – The number of students drop out is rising in the country over the years as the number of dropout is rising irrespectively from primary to tertiary level.
 
“The concerned education ministry has no control as the number of dropout students is rising over the years from primary to tertiary or post-secondary education level,” said opposition lawmaker Fakhrul Imam of Mymensingh-8 at the jatiya sangsad while addressing budget cut motion on Education Ministry .
 
Although extensive facilities even students enrolment without tuition fees have been increasing for the students at primary schools, he said, adding “ but huge number of students every year are shifting to madrashas with paying tuition fees starting from Taka 100 to Taka 1,000, per month.”

 
He urged the government to find out the reason of such huge shifting of primary students to Quami madrashas.  “No permission is  required for building a Qawmi madrasahs, one of the two major madrasah educational categories in Bangladesh, are not regulated by the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board while a lot of approval needed for building a school.”
 
The opposition lawmaker said the number of women madrashas is rising abruptly in the country as many things outof syllabus are being taught the students in these madrashas.
 
Expressing his deep concern over the education curriculum, Imam said the short stories on prophet Hazrat Muhmmad(PUBH), last hajj speech of Prophet Muhammad, biographies of Hazrat Abu Bakar and Hazrat Omar have been excluded from the primary and secondary text books. Adding : “But included in the syllabus from class one to nine about  tales on Ram, Ramayan, 

Kali Puja and ‘ Lal Goru (red cow) as a mark of spreading Hinduism.”

“We believe in religious harmony, but the concerned education ministry must look into how the education system is changing towards a particular religious culture,”the   opposition lawmaker added.
