Bangladesh need no import of urea fertilizer from next year, Majumder tells JS

DHAKA, June 21, 2022 (BSS) – State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahamed Majumder today said Bangladesh would need no import of urea fertilizer from next year. 

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has recently laid foundation stone of Ghorasal Polash Urea Fertilizer, the biggest fertilizer project in Bangladesh,  at Narshingdi and it would help us in saving foreign currency from fertilizer import,” the State Minister told this at the parliament while participating in general  discussion on the proposed budget FY2022-23 here.

Already seventy-five percent works of the urea fertilizer factory has been completed, he said, adding that “we hope that the factory will produce 10 lakh tonnes of urea fertilizer annually from January-February in 2023.”

So, the country will no need to import fertilizer from abroad after coming the factory under operation, the state minister mentioned.
