Proposed budget will change socio-economic condition at grassroots people: lawmakers

DHAKA, June 16, 2022 (BSS) - Lawmakers today said the proposed budget will change the socio-economic condition at the grassroots people.

Taking part in the general discussion on the proposed budget for 2022-23 fiscal in the Jatiya Sangsad, the lawmakers said the proposed national budget will benefit the grassroots people.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on June 9 in the Jatiya Sangsad unveiled a Taka 6,78,064 crore national budget for 2022-23 fiscal setting the GDP growth target at 7.5 percent amid the economic fallout due to the novel coronavirus pandemic coupled with ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.

"The proposed budget has reduced duty on local IT goods, agricultural inputs, animal feed and it will ultimately create employment and particularly will benefit economically to the people living in remote areas," said Nuruddin Chowdhury Nayan of Lakshimpur-2.

"The proposed budget has proposed for initiating pension scheme and reduce duty on agricultural inputs which would help lower income people in line with the effort to bring smile on the face of poor people stated by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," said Begum Zakia Parvin Khanam of Women seat-18. 

Criticizing the proposed budget, Opposition lawmaker Mujbul Huq of Kishorganj-3 said the proposed budget has allocated Taka 1.13 crore for social safety net which is comparatively more than the allocation earmarked in current year, saying that but in terms of percentage, it [proposed allocation] is less compare to current year.

The budget has expressed concerned on inflation rate but the budget document has no directives on how to control the inflation rate, the Jatiya Party lawmaker said in his address.

Participating in budget discussion, ruling party lawmaker Khaleda Khanam of women seat-6 said BNP-Jamaat never believe in development of the country, but Sheikh Hasina has turned the country into digital one.

Earlier, they paid their cordial tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their utmost sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.
