Community clinics providing free healthcare services, medicines

GAIBANDHA, June 16, 2022 (BSS)- Community clinics have been providing primary
healthcare services including 28 sorts of medicines free of cost to the rural
people including char areas, where hard to reach, of the country.
 
"The community clinics, which were established and are being functioned by
the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, are playing significant
role to ensuring health facilities to the char dwellers," they said.
 
They made the comments while addressing a Community Clinic Development
Affairs opinion exchange meeting held on the premises of Bochagari Community
Clinic (BCC) under Kapasia union of Sundardarganj upazila in the district on
Wednesday noon.
 
BCC committee arranged the function in cooperation with Reinforcing rural
resilience programme, funded by Swiss Red Cross.
 
Professor Dr. Syed Modasser Ali, chairman of community clinic health support
trust under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, addressed the meeting
as the chief guest while local lawmaker Shameem Haider Patwary spoke as the
guest of honor.

Sanjib Biswas Sanjoy, deputy head of administration, Swiss Red Cross, Dhaka
was present at the event as special guest with Civil Surgeon of the district
Dr. AM. Akhteruzzaman in the chair.

Prof Modasser Ali said Community clinic is one of the 10 special initiatives
of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The United Nations and other international
organisations have highly praised this initiative as the clinics have been
playing a significant role in reaching integrated health and family planning
services including 28 sorts of medicines at the doorsteps of rural people
including char ones, he added.

He also urged all to be more cordial and attentive to make the community
clinics more popular and attractive to the mass people of the surroundings
and catchment areas of the clinics in the days ahead through enhancing the
healthcare services of the clinics.

Project Manager Dr. Faruq Hossain, National Coordinator Shahana Pervin,
Senior Manager Mohammad Jasim Uddin Kabir, DRM Manager Tuhin Samaddar, Unit
Member Mzammel Haque Jhilam, Unit Level Officer Rakibul Islam, Project
Manager Amal Kumar Pramanik addressed the meeting, among others.
 
The speakers underscored the need for providing quality services from the
community clinics located in the chars considering the welfare of the char
dwellers as they are fully dependent on the clinics to get healthcare
services in easy way.

After elaborate discussion, many recommendations were also adopted to
increase the service of quality of the clinics.

A large number of people from all walks of life including public
representatives, land owners of the community clinics, social workers and
media men attended the function.
