AL should continue in power for development, welfare: Hanif

DHAKA, June 15, 2022 (BSS) - Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif today said the ruling Awami League should come to the power once again as it always works for the development of the country and the welfare of its people.

"Ziaur Rahman, Ershad and Khaleda Zia were absorbed in luxury when they came to power. Their goal was to stay in power and hence they could not do any work for the development of the country and the welfare of the people. However, under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the country is moving forward in development and progress. That is why, AL needs to come to power again to continue this trend," he said.

The AL leader made the remarks at the triennial conference of the wards 8 and 93 of Shah Ali police station of Dhaka North City Unit of AL here.

Referring to the visionary leaders such as former Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad and Singapore's long-time leader Lee Kuan, he said Bangladesh has got the second visionary leader after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"Today, Bangladesh's per capita income has reached 2,860 from 600 US dollar because of the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he added.

Lauding AL's contribution to the country, Hanif said that the national anthem, national flag and the constitution of Bangladesh all have been achieved under the leadership of Awami League.

Criticizing the remarks of BNP leaders that -If anything happens to BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, the AL government will have to take responsibility- Hanif said Begum Khaleda Zia is convicted by the court and this government did not file the case against her.

The case was filed during 1/11 regime, he added.

"As the government has not done anything in this regard, why should we take responsibility?" he asked.

Later, he sought early recovery of the ailing Begum Khaleda Zia.

With Shah Ali Thana AL President Bir Muktijoddha Aga Khan Mintu, MP, in the chair, the conference was inaugurated by Dhaka North City Unit of AL President Sheikh Bazlur Rahman.

Besides, AL Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, AL Executive Member Marufa Akhter Poppy, Dhaka North City unit of AL General Secretary SM Mannan Kochi and Bangladesh Awami Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil also spoke, among others, on the occasion.
