JS passes Tk 17,524.64 cr supplementary budget 

DHAKA, June 13, 2022 (BSS) - The Parliament on Monday passed the supplementary budget of Tk 17,524.64 crore for the fiscal 2021-22 to meet the increased expenditures under 26 different ministries and divisions.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed the supplementary budget in the House on June 9 along with the national budget of FY2022-23.

A total of Tk 6,03,681 crore was allocated in favour of 62 ministries and divisions in the budget of 2022-23 fiscal.

In the supplementary budget, the expenditure for 26 ministries and divisions was increased by Tk 17,524.64 crore.

As a result, the budget allocations for these ministries and divisions were reduced by Tk 10,181 crore and the total allocation now stands at Tk 5,93,500 crore.

On Monday, the finance minister moved the Supplementary Budget in the House following general discussions on it.

Different ministries, divisions and institutions sought increased amount under 26 demands for grant. Discussions, however, were held on only four cut-motions which were moved by 11 members.

These were on the allocation of Public Security Division, Health and Family Welfare, Local Government Division and Disaster Management and Relief.

These cut motions were brought by Jatiya Party MPs Kazi Firoz Rashid, Mujibul Huq, Fakhrul Imam, Rowshan Ara Mannan and Shamim Haider Patwary, BNP MPs Md Harunur Rashid, Rumin Farhana and Md. Mosharof Hosen and Gonoforum MP Mukabbir Khan and Independent MP Md. Rezaul Karim Bablu.

However, those cut-motions were rejected by voice votes.

The finance division got the highest allocation of Taka 5,307.56 crore while the second largest allocation earmarked for agriculture ministry with an outlay of Taka 2,742.34 crore.

The Prime Minister's Office got Tk 579.06 crore while the Election Commission Secretariat Tk 50 crore, the Financial Institutions Division Tk 78.25 crore, Economic Relations Division TK 113,61,71,000 cr, Armed force division Tk 4.81cr, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Ministry Tk 7,81,85,000 cr, Public Security Division Tk 178,16,29,000 cr,

Primary and Mass Education ministry Tk 1,908,71,98,000 cr, Health and Family Welfare Ministry Tk 250,81,12,000 cr, Public Works and Housing TK 497,62,90,000 cr, Information and Broadcasting Ministry TK 52,25,56,000cr, Religious Affairs Ministry Tk 282,83,32,000 cr, Youth and Sports Ministry TK 142,56,62,000cr, 

Local Government Division Tk 391,97,76,000cr, Education Ministry Tk 626,59,91,000cr, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Taka 12,42,16,000 cr, Textile and Jute Ministry TK 147,08,52,000cr, Agriculture Ministry Tk 2,742,34,64,000cr, Environment and Forest and Climate Change Tk 1,24,31,000cr,

Earlier, discussions were held on the supplementary budget of FY2021-22 at the House.

Treasury bench lawmakers Begum Wasika Ayesha Khan and Ahsanul Huq Tito, Jatiya Party lawmaker Begum Raushan Ara Mannan and BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid, among other, took part in the discussion.
