2,800 disabled persons got ICT training in five years’


 
RANGPUR, June 8, 2022 (BSS) - Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) has provided ICT training to 2,800 persons with disabilities, including 301 persons with Neurodevelopment Disorders (NDD) during last five years across the country.
 
Among them, a total of 810 have so far been provided employment and 600 trained people have been assisted with laptops.
 
The information was disclosed at a seminar titled 'ICT Department for Capacity Building of Persons with Disabilities through Information Technology' held at Begum Rokeya Auditorium here this afternoon.
 
Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) has organized the seminar under its ‘Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities including NDD through ICT (EPWDICT)’ project.
 
Representatives of government and non-government departments, institutions and organizations, officials and employers and persons with disabilities of different ages participated in the event.
 
Principal of Rangpur Carmichael College Professor Dr Amjad Hossain  attended the seminar as chief guest with EPWDICT Project Director Monowar Uz Zaman in the chair.
 
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the City Special Branch of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Bakar Siddique and Rangpur Divisional Director of the Department of Social Services Md Abdul Motaleb Sarker spoke on the occasion as special guests.
 
Project Instructor Sagar Poddar delivered the welcome speech while BCC Rangpur Regional Director Engineer Aminul Islam presented the keynote paper.
 
Engineer Aminul Islam said the present government has taken various steps for protection of persons with disabilities and improvement of their quality of life, including legislation, skill development, social security and employment.
 
“Training materials, travel and accommodation allowances are being provided including free training to the persons with disabilities. As a result, the confidence of persons with disabilities has increased more than ever before,’ he said.
 
At the same time, the desire of the persons with disabilities to be established in the society has increased with strong moral.
 
The speakers called upon the parents to take decisions for the mental development, skill development and capacity building of persons with disabilities from the family before the government.
 
The chief guest lauded the government for working to turn the persons with disabilities into assets and stressed on the need for invention of more disability support technologies to further ease their life and profession.
