Shahab Uddin urges all to plant at least 3 saplings

DHAKA, June 5, 2022 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin today said everyone should plant at least three saplings to make the country a greener one.

"In order to maintain the balance of the country's forests, wildlife and biodiversity and the environment, we must plant as many trees as we can," he told reporters after inspecting stalls of the tree fair and environment fair 2022, on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar here on the World Environment Day.

 Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed, Director General of the Department of Environment (DoE) Dr Abdul Hamid and Chief Conservator of Forests Md Amir Hosain Chowdhury were, among others, present.

Shahab Uddin said this year's tree fair has become very rich and eye-catching with the various local and foreign trees.

"As the environment of the tree fair is beautiful, people will be able to buy saplings of their choice and will be motivated to plant trees," he said.

The environment minister said the visitors will be able to gain practical knowledge about the causes of environmental pollution and environmental conservation from the various types of stalls at the environment fair.

The tree fair with 110 stalls will remain open every day from 8 am to 8 pm till July 4 next. On the other hand, with 55 stalls, the environment fair will run daily from 10 am to 8 pm till June 11 next.

Earlier in the day at the inaugural function of the World Environment Day and Environment Fair 2022 and the National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2022, Shahab Uddin on behalf of the prime minister, presented the National Environment Medal, Prime the Minister's National Award for Tree Plantation and the Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation to winners.

The minister also distributed benefits to social forestry beneficiaries.
