Workshop on citizen charter held at BOU

DHAKA, May 12, 2022 (BSS) - A workshop titled 'Citizen Charter: Accountability in Social Economy and its Impact' was held on Bangladesh Open University (BOU) campus in Gazipur today.

BOU Service Delivery Action Plan Implementation Committee organized the daylong workshop while its Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Syed Humayun Akhter addressed the programme as the chief guest.

Professor of Essex University in the UK Dr Shahjad Uddin joined the workshop as the key speaker with BOU pro-VC (administration) Professor Dr Nasim Banu in the chair.

Addressing the programme, Dr Humayun Akhter said, "We have taken an initiative to finalize a citizen charter for ensuring different services in an easier way for the BOU students after identifying their problems".

He emphasized on job-and people-oriented education.

Key speaker Dr Shahjad said citizen charter for students is most important for ensuring quality services.

Presenting a comparative picture between the citizen charter in Bangladesh and the UK, he said the citizen charter was launched in the UK in 90's decade to ensure uninterrupted services in time.

Though it was tough to implement the citizen charter in Bangladesh in the beginning time, Dr Shahjad, said the people at grassroots level are now getting the services as per the charter.

Noting that citizen charter has simplified the public services, he underscored the need for free flow of information.

BOU pro-VC (academic) Professor Dr Mahbuba Nasreen and Treasurer Professor Mostafa Azad Kamal spoke at the workshop as special guests while Dr Md Shafiqul Alam delivered welcome address.
