BNP's comment over health sector reveals its bankruptcy of thoughts: Hasan

DHAKA, April 8, 2022 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP's comments over the country's health sector and their quest for of flaws in everything reveal the party's bankruptcy of thoughts.

He said this while replying to journalists at his official residence at Minto Road here.

Asked about BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's comment on the World Health Day that the country's health system has completely collapsed, the minister questioned if health sector got collapsed, how the country could face the three waves of coronavirus pandemic more effectively compared to many developed nations.

When 130 countries couldn't begin vaccination programme for Covid-19, Bangladesh began its inoculation programme and one crore people were vaccinated together, he added.

Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said hundreds of students and teachers of madrasahs, slam dwellers and floating people were given jabs without registration in this densely populated country.

Such a programme is taken in very few developing and densely populated countries in the world, he mentioned.
He said that is why, Bangladesh has been able to face the pandemic more effectively than many countries and other health services were also kept running during the pandemic.

The minister said United Nations Secretary General and World Health Organization also lauded Bangladesh's efforts but BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul couldn't do so.

Turning to prices of essentials, Hasan said prices of essential commodities including onion, vegetables and chickens remain in falling trend for the last several days.

Noting that the government is monitoring the market, he said the government is determined to take stern actions against dishonest traders.

It is a matter of sorrow but true that BNP and their allies, in one hand, criticize the government over the prices of essentials, on the other hand, they provoke dishonest traders to hoard products and raise prices.

Amid different conspiracies, the prices of essentials are in declining trend due to various steps of the government, he mentioned.
