Boilers Bill, 2022 passes in JS

DHAKA, Apr 3, 2022 (BSS) – A bill titled "The Boilers Bill, 2022" today passed in the parliament  aiming to check boiler-related accidents and ensure safer work environment in industrial mills through the use of standard boilers.

 
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun moved the bill in the House which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
 
The bill will replace the Boiler Act, 1923.
 
Opposition lawmakers Mujibul Huq, Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary, BNP lawmakers Rumeen Farhana, and Harunur Rashid demanded further review of the draft law.
 
But later the public review proposals of the draft law raised by the opposition lawmakers were null and void by voice votes.
 
Most of the unnatural deaths of the workers are now being taken place at the working places in the country due to mismanagement in the industrial organizations, said the opposition lawmakers.

BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid of Chapainawabganj-3 urged the government on continuous inspection of the industries participating with the private sector inspectors aiming to maintain safety of the workers in particular industries.
 
He, however, sought proper waste disposal management system engaging the private sector.

Regarding the enactment of the law, the industries minister said the enactment will help to raise manpower in the industrial sector.
