Sohel, Akhter elected president, GS of DUJ

DHAKA, March 29, 2022 (BSS) - Sohel Haider Chowdhury and Akhter Hossain have been elected president and general secretary respectively of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) in the polls to hold its office for two-year term.

Chief Election Commissioner of the polls Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul announced the results at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) tonight.

Sohel secured 724 votes while his nearest contestant Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu bagged 690 votes in the president post.

Akhter was elected GS bagging 736 votes while his nearest contender Md Mehedi Hasan got 642 votes.

While MA Quddus was elected senior vice-president (673 votes), Manik Lal Ghosh vice-president (535 votes), Khairul Alam joint general secretary (655 votes), Ashraful Islam treasurer (729 votes), A Jihadur Rahman Jihad organizing secretary (864 votes), Raju Hamid publicity secretary (768 votes), Sakila Parvin sports and cultural secretary (881), Zubair Rahman Chowdhury welfare secretary (764 votes) and Amanullah Aman office secretary (720 votes).

Elected executive committee members are: Mujib Masud (675), Dulal Khan (644), Ibrahim Khalil Khokon (624), Asadur Rahman (607), Salim Ullah Selim (606), Anwar Hossain (592), Mohiuddin Polash (545) and Rehana Parvin (483).

The polling was held at the JPC from 9am to 6pm without any break today.
