Begum Rokeya University celebrates Independence Day

RANGPUR, March 26, 2022 (BSS) - The Independence and National Day- 2022 was

celebrated at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) here today with
colorful programs paying rich tribute to the heroic martyrs of the Great War
of Liberation.

Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Hasibur Rashid inaugurated the celebration of
the day by hoisting the national flag amid rendering of the national anthem
with the sunrise on the campus.

The Vice-chancellor with Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Sarifa Salowa Dina
released balloons and pigeons before leading a colorful procession from the
mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the campus
at 9:30 am.

After parading the entire campus, the procession ended in front of the
Independence Memorial.

The Vice-chancellor, Pro Vice-chancellor, leaders and officials of all
residential halls, institutes and various organizations of the teachers,
students, officials and employees of the university attired in colourful
dresses participated in the procession.

Later, the Vice-chancellor, Pro Vice-chancellor and Treasurer of the
university paid homage to the heroic martyred freedom fighters, heroic
freedom fighters and martyrs of the Great War of Liberation by placing
wreaths at the altar of Independence Memorial.

Deans of all six faculties, heads of all 22 departments, officials of
residential halls, institutes, Begum Rokeya University Teachers' Association,
Officers' Association, Bangabandhu Parishad, Employees' Union, teachers,
officials, employees and students and various social and cultural
organizations placed wreaths there.

Marking the occasion, the Vice-chancellor inaugurated sports competitions on
the playground of the university at 10:30 am.

Special milad mehfil followed by doa and offering special munajats was
organized at the Central Mosque of the university after the Johr prayers
seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs of the Great War
of Liberation in 1971.

Marking celebrations of the day, a discussion followed by award distribution,
unveiling cover of a souvenir 'Suborno Path' and cultural program was
organized in the afternoon.
Besides, the Vice-chancellor unveiled the plaque of the portrait of martyred
heroic freedom fighter Khandaker Mukhtar Elahi at Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall
of the university.

On the occasion, the Pro Vice-chancellor, members of the provost body of
Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall and teachers and students of different departments
were present.
