BRUR celebrates Bangabandhu’s 102nd birth anniversary


RANGPUR, March 17, 2022 (BSS) - The 102nd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day-2022 were celebrated at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) in a colorful way today.
 
The celebrations began with hoisting of the national flag by Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Hasibur Rashid and university flag by Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina amid rendering of the national anthem.
 
BNCC Cadets and Rover Scouts showed due respect to the national flag and gave a guard of honor. Later, the Vice-chancellor and Pro Vice-chancellor placed wreaths at the mural of Bangabandhu on the campus.

Treasurer of the University, Deans of different faculties and heads of all departments, Provosts and officials of all residential halls, leaders of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ Association (BRUTA), Officers’ Association, Bangabandhu Parishad, Employees’ Union, teachers, students,
officers, employees and sociocultural organizations placed wreaths there.
 
The Vice-chancellor cut a cake with children in the cafeteria premises in celebration of the 102nd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
 
He distributed cheques of Bangabandhu Merit Scholarships to meritorious students who have achieved 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in undergraduate and postgraduate levels in all departments of the university.
 
Later, a drawing competition was held at the cafeteria for children of teachers, officers and employees of the university and students of the university.
 
The Vice-chancellor and Pro Vice-chancellor with other guests distributed prizes among winners of the competitions.
 
Earlier, a pleasant cultural program was organized with child artists.
 
After the Johr prayers, a milad mahfil was organized and special munajats were offered at the Central Mosque of BRUR seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Bangabandhu.
 
Later, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel participated in a virtual discussion organized by BRUR as the chief guest.
 
Professor Kamolesh Chandra Roy of the Department of Mathematics presented the keynote essay while General Secretary of BRUTA Syed Anwarul Azim delivered a welcome speech.
 
The Deputy Minister said that Bangabandhu's philosophy of education must be implemented. There is a need to expand practical and vocational education beyond conventional education, he said.

“The educationists should not only pay homage to Bangabandhu on his birthday, but they also should implement Bangabandhu’s thoughts on education,” he said.
 
Presided over by the Vice-chancellor, Pro Vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals Professor Dr. Khandaker Mokaddem Hossain, Pro Vice-chancellor of BRUR and President of BRUTA Md. Shariful Islam participated in the discussion.
 
Lecturer of the Department of Economics Lecturer Kazi Newaz Mostafa moderated the virtual discussion.
