Bangabandhu's political genius revealed in March 7 Speech

DHAKA, March 7, 2022 (BSS) - Prudence and true sense of political genius of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was revealed in his historic March 7 speech as he delivered every message to the concerned groups keeping the negotiation's door open without giving scopes to Pakistanis to launch instant assaults.

"In the short speech, Bangabandhu did everything... he made people aware of the Pakistani barbarism first, then he gave all directives to the people for a possible war but kept the negotiation's door open to earn support and acceptance at international arena without giving any reason to the Pakistanis to launch attacks," critic and writer Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam told BSS.

After making people aware of Pakistani brutality, Bangabandhu brought out the arguments to let the international community and local people as well as the Pakistanis understand what was exactly going on the ground and then he gave directions to the people, he said.

Manzoorul, also a former professor of Dhaka University English Department, said Bangabandhu did everything very smartly and without any mistake as he came to realise that the history itself were giving a big responsibility on his solder and he has no way to make a single mistake or keep anything incomplete.

Many people thought that Bangabandhu would announce the declaration of independence directly on March 7, but he did not do because he knew that "If he closes the door of negotiation and go straight for the war he would have to lose support and acceptance from international arena."

"If Pakistani occupation forces found any valid reason such as doing anti-state activity at that time they would have destroyed us as they were totally ready to lunch instant attack in the daylight and were able to get support from USA and China," said Manzoorul.

When Bangabandhu was talking about the barbarism and violence of Pakistan on country's people, he was careful and picked every point smartly and delivered to the people in a very smart way as he knew what to say and how much to say in such crucial situation, he added.

Addressing Pakistani soldiers as brothers, Bangabandhu urged them to stay inside the barrack and made them understand that they have to face a tough situation if they came out of the barrack, he further said.

Bangabandhu uttered everything and gave directions for the liberation war in a strategic way but didn't declare the independence directly in his March 7 speech, he said, adding, "If he directly declared the independence on that day, a massacre could have happened."

He said the March 7 speech truly reflected his political genius, wisdom and prudence as he had given directives for all which were necessary for liberating the country without directly declaring the independence.

It was a very tough situation and crisis-ridden context when Bangabandhu delivered his historic speech as tanks were put in place and military weapons were stockpiled and kept standby ahead of the March 7 rally, he said.

"This is Bangabandhu's prudence and leadership. He called for the country's independence and liberation war but he made the call in a way that Pakistanis could not carry out attack," he observed.

The entire nation remained doubtful and worried about what was going to happen before the landmark speech of Bangabandhu on March 7.

"In the groundbreaking March 7 speech, the Bangalee nation got the clear guideline for the coming days," he said.

He said though Bangabandhu talked about the independence in a roundabout way, he had clearly given directions for independence.
