DHAKA, Feb 21, 2022 (BSS) – Bangladesh Scouts will observe the B-P Day, the birthday of Robert Baden-Powell, tomorrow.

On February 22, Scouts around the world celebrate ‘B-P Day’ - the birthday of Robert Baden-Powell, who is credited with founding the Scouting Movement.

On this auspicious occasion, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages today.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid said Robert Stephenson Smith Lord Baden-Powell was born in London on February 22 in 1857.

He said the voluntary movement Baden-Powell started in 1907 for the physical, mental, social, intellectual and spiritual development of children and adolescents is widely appreciated across the world today.

After the country’s independence, the President said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave official recognition to Bangladesh Scouts on September 11, 1972 through the 111th Presidential Ordinance.

Inspired by Bangabandhu, Bangladesh Scouts became a member of the World Scout Organization in 1974, he said, adding that from the very beginning, the members of Scouts have been playing an important role in building the country by participating in various voluntary activities.

Abdul Hamid said the Scout Movement is playing a unique role in developing moral values of the children and adolescents and educating them apart from instilling them to get involved in various social activities.

“I hope that Bangladesh Scouts will play a positive role in developing children and adolescents as trained, skilled and ideal citizens with human values through its own working method,” he said.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh achieved independence under the leadership of the greatest Bengalee of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She said the father of the nation dreamed of building a hunger- and poverty-free, and happy-prosperous Bangladesh.

Bangabandhu was leading the country towards this goal, while the present Awami League government is working to build a knowledge-based and modern state, the premier said.

In the light of the National Education Policy-2010, she said, the government has intensified co-curricular activities along with the academic activities aiming to build a culture-minded young generation with moral values.

Scouting has already been recognised as an important co-curricular activity, she added.

The prime minister said the members of scouts are playing a strong role in building the country through their spontaneous participation in various social and state activities.

“Our government is cooperating with them to make scouting activities more effective,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina hoped that the scouts would play an important role in inspiring the new generation with the spirit of Liberation War and building Bangabandhu's Sonar Bangladesh.

The President and the Prime Minister wished the overall celebration of the ‘B-P Day’ a success.
