DHAKA, Feb 20, 2022 (BSS) - The Search Committee, formed to propose

nominations to constitute the next Election Commission, will finalise
the names of 10 people on Tuesday.

  While talking to reporters after a meeting of the committee, its
chief Justice Obaidul Hassan said: "Today we held the sixth meeting of
the committee. At its fifth meeting, the committee prepared a list of
20 people".

  He said the committee today shortlisted the names of 12-13 people
for the posts of the chief election commissioner (CEC) and other
election commissioners.

  Obaidul Hassan said the committee will finalise the names of 10
people at its seventh meeting on Tuesday (Feb 22).

  "The proposed names are being scrutinised. The names will be
finalised and will be sent to the President. But, the names will not
be revealed," he said.

  According to the law, Obaidul Hassan, the Search Committee cannot
reveal the names. "After receiving the list of the proposed names, the
President may reveal the names if he wishes," he added.

  Replying to a query, the Search Committee chief said the 15 working
days of the search committee will end on February 27 next, hoping that
the committee would be able to fulfill its responsibilities by
February 24.

  The sixth meeting of the Search Committee was held at the Judge
Lounge of the Supreme Court this evening.
