Two more die of Covid-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 20, 2022 (BSS) - Two more Covid-19 patients died during the
last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in Rangpur division where the pandemic
situation continues improving in recent days.

     Health officials said the Covid-19 related casualties are increasing in
the division despite the number of positive cases continuing to decline amid
rising recovery rate of infected patients in the last one week.

     "With the two more deaths reported from Thakurgaon and Dinajpur
districts, the number of casualties reached 1,276 in the division,"
Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam Lenin told BSS today.

     The district-wise breakup of the 1,276 fatalities stands at 296 in
Rangpur, 84 in Panchagarh, 92 in Nilphamari, 72 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in
Kurigram, 258 in Thakurgaon, 340 in Dinajpur and 65 in Gaibandha of the
division.

     The average casualty rate stands at two percent in the division.

     Meanwhile, 73 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed after testing 501
samples at the 14.57 percent positivity rate on Saturday in the division.

     Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 10.82 percent on
Friday, 19.74 percent on Thursday, 18.58 percent on Wednesday, 22.12 percent
on Tuesday, 22.48 percent on Monday and 16.74 percent on Sunday last in the
division.

     "With the diagnosis of 73 fresh Covid-19 cases, the total number of
infected patients has reached 63,813 in Rangpur division," Dr. Islam said.

     The district-wise break up of total 63,813 patients include 14,867 in
Rangpur, 4,384 in Panchagarh, 5,446 in Nilphamari, 3,259 in Lalmonirhat,
4,965 in Kurigram, 8,555 in Thakurgaon, 16,867 in Dinajpur and 5,470 in
Gaibandha in the division.

     Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,33,887 collected
samples were tested till Saturday, and of them, 63,813 were found Covid-19
positive with an average positivity rate of 19.11 percent.  

    At the same time, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 59,416
in Rangpur division with the recovery of 223 more patients on Saturday.

     The average recovery rate presently stands at 93.11 percent.     

    Among the total 63,813 patients, 85 are under treatments at isolation
units, including 12 critical patients at ICU beds and six at High Dependency
Unit beds, after recovery of 59,416 patients and 1,276 deaths while 3,036 are
remaining in home isolation.

   "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-
19 vaccine rose to 1,11,10,919 and among them, 76,75,112 got the second dose
and 2,95,215 got the booster dose till Saturday in the division," Dr Islam
added.

   Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy
said the number of Covid-19 cases is declining as the community spread of the
deadly virus is becoming weaker in Rangpur division.

   He suggested everyone abide by the health directives to further reduce
the community spread of the lethal virus.
