Covid-19 casualties reach 1,274 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 19, 2022 (BSS) - The total number of Covid-19 related
casualties reached 1,274 in Rangpur division where one more patient died
during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today.

     Health officials said the pandemic situation is improving in the
division as the number of positive cases continues declining during the last
one week.

     "The new Covid-19 related casualty was reported from Dinajpur district
in the division," Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam
Lenin told BSS today.

     The district-wise breakup of the 1,274 fatalities stands at 296 in
Rangpur, 83 in Panchagarh, 92 in Nilphamari, 71 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in
Kurigram, 258 in Thakurgaon, 340 in Dinajpur and 65 in Gaibandha of the
division.

    The average casualty rate stands at two percent in the division.

     Meanwhile, 41 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed after testing 379
samples at the 10.82 percent positivity rate on Friday in the division.

     Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 19.74 percent on
Thursday, 18.58 percent on Wednesday, 22.12 percent on Tuesday, 22.48 percent
on Monday, 16.74 percent on Sunday and 21.57 percent on Saturday last in the
division.

     "With the diagnosis of 41 fresh Covid-19 cases, the total number of
infected patients has reached 63,740 in Rangpur division," Dr. Islam said.

    The district-wise break up of total 63,740 patients include 14,849 in
Rangpur, 4,377 in Panchagarh, 5,438 in Nilphamari, 3,254 in Lalmonirhat,
4,960 in Kurigram, 8,552 in Thakurgaon, 16,842 in Dinajpur and 5,468 in
Gaibandha in the division.

     Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,33,386 collected
samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 63,740 were found Covid-19
positive with an average positivity rate of 19.12 percent.

      At the same time, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 59,193
in Rangpur division with the recovery of 70 more patients on Friday.

     The average recovery rate presently stands at 92.87 percent.

    

      Among the total 63,740 patients, 81 are under treatments at isolation
units, including 13 critical patients at ICU beds and five at High Dependency
Unit beds, after recovery of 59,193 patients and 1,274 deaths while 3,192 are
remaining in home isolation.

     "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-
19 vaccine rose to 1,09,95,273 and among them, 75,30,918 got the second dose
and 2,84,850 got the booster dose till Friday in the division," Dr Islam
added.

     Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy
said the Covid-19 pandemic situation is improving as the community spread of
the deadly virus is becoming weaker in Rangpur division.

     "However, everyone should abide by the health directives to contain
further community spread of the lethal virus," he said.
