One more die of Covid-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 17, 2022 (BSS) – One more Covid-19 patient died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in the division where the pandemic situation is improving in recent days.

Health officials said the Covid-19 related casualties are increasing in the division despite the number of positive cases continuing declining in the last one week.

“With the one more death reported from Rangpur, the number of fatalities reached 1,273 in here,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam Lenin told BSS today.

The district-wise breakup of the 1,273 fatalities stands at 296 in Rangpur, 83 in Panchagarh, 92 in Nilphamari, 71 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in Kurigram, 258 in Thakurgaon, 339 in Dinajpur and 65 in Gaibandha of the division.

The average casualty rate stands at two percent in the division.

Meanwhile, 110 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed after testing 592 samples with the 18.058 percent positivity rate on Wednesday in the division.

Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 22.12 percent on Tuesday, 22.48 percent on Monday, 16.74 percent on Sunday, 21.57 percent on Saturday, 24.29 percent on Friday and 26.88 percent on Thursday last in the division.

“With the diagnosis of 110 fresh Covid-19 cases, the total number of infected patients has reached 63,579 in Rangpur division,” Dr. Islam said.

The district-wise break up of total 63,579 patients include 14,811 in Rangpur, 4,366 in Panchagarh, 5,423 in Nilphamari, 3,234 in Lalmonirhat, 4,951 in Kurigram, 8,546 in Thakurgaon, 16,796 in Dinajpur and 5,452 in Gaibandha in the division.
 
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,32,399 collected samples were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 63,579 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.13 percent.

At the same time, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 58,803 in the division with the recovery of 236 more patients on Wednesday.

The average recovery rate presently stands at 92.49 percent.
     
Among the total 63,579 patients, 90 are under treatments at isolation units, including 14 critical patients at ICU beds and five at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 58,803 patients and 1,273 deaths while 3,413 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 1,09,77,574 and among them, 77,04,562 got the second dose and 2,73,382 got the booster dose till Wednesday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy said the Covid-19 pandemic situation is improving as the community spread of the deadly virus is continuously becoming weaker in the division.

“However, everyone should abide by the health directives to further reduce the community spread of the lethal virus,” he said.
