One more die of Covid-19 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Feb 16, 2022 (BSS) - One more Covid-19 related fatality was
reported from Thakurgaon during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today
raising the number fatalities to 1,272 in Rangpur division.

     Health officials said the pandemic situation is showing a slight
improving trend during the last few days as community spread of the lethal
virus is gradually becoming weaker in the division.

    The district-wise breakup of the 1,272 fatalities stands at 295 in
Rangpur, 83 in Panchagarh, 92 in Nilphamari, 71 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in
Kurigram, 258 in Thakurgaon, 339 in Dinajpur and 65 in Gaibandha of the
division.

     "The average casualty rate currently stands at two percent in the
division," Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam Lenin told
the national news agency today.

     Meanwhile, 148 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed after testing 669
samples at the 22.12 percent positivity rate on Tuesday in the division where
the positivity rate is declining in recent days.

     Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 22.48 percent on
Monday, 16.74 percent on Sunday, 21.57 percent on Saturday, 24.29 percent on
Friday, 26.88 percent on Thursday and 27.22 percent on Wednesday last in the
division.

     "With the diagnosis of 148 fresh Covid-19 cases, the total number of
infected patients has reached 63,469 in the division," Dr. Islam said.

     "The district-wise break up of total 63,469 patients include 14,784 in
Rangpur, 4,354 in Panchagarh, 5,404 in Nilphamari, 3,223 in Lalmonirhat,
4,949 in Kurigram, 8,538 in Thakurgaon, 16,771 in Dinajpur and 5,446 in
Gaibandha in the division," he added..

     Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,31.807 collected
samples were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 63,469 were found Covid-19
positive with an average positivity rate of 19.13 percent.

     In the meantime, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 58,567
in Rangpur division with the recovery of 250 more patients on Tuesday.

     "The average recovery rate currently stands at 92.28 percent in the
division where the healing rate is also showing a rising trend in recent
days," Dr. Islam said.

     Among the total 63,469 patients, 93 are under treatment at isolation
units, including 14 critical patients at ICU beds and four at High Dependency
Unit beds, after recovery of 58,567 patients and 1,272 deaths while 3,537 are
remaining in home isolation.

     "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-
19 vaccine rose to 1,09,64,757 and among them, 72,60,083 got the second dose
and 2,64,835 got the booster dose till Tuesday in the division," Dr Islam
added.

     Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy
said the number of Covid-19 cases is showing a slightly declining trend in
recent days in Rangpur division.

     However, he suggested common people abide by the health directives to
prevent further community spread of the lethal virus.
