SYLHET, Feb 15, 2022 (BSS) - Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen
today said it is the BNP that gradually destroyed the caretaker government
system through its illegal activities.
"It is unfortunate to hear about democracy from those who (BNP) has
destroyed the caretaker government system for capturing the power," he said.
The minister came up with the remarks replying to a question from
journalists after attending an inaugural function of a private hospital Cath
Lab in the city this afternoon.
Noting that BNP has always assumed power through the back door and still is
trying to do the same, Momen said, "But now there is no such opportunity".
He also said if BNP wants to take part in polls, they must follow the
electoral process and go to the commoners as the people are the owners of
votes and the country as well.
Speaking about the current process of constituting the next Election
Commission (EC), Momen said the EC will be transparent, and the elections,
which will be held under that EC, must also be transparent.
Many countries around the world do not have an EC, the minister said,
adding that there is also no Election Commission in the USA since the
elections are held under the current government in those countries.
"(But) we are trying for holding a transparent election by constituting
the Election Commission. Because, we always believe in the democratic rules
and transparent elections," Momen said.
