Bangladesh to vaccinate one crore people on Feb 26

DHAKA, Feb 15, 2022 (BSS) - Bangladesh has set a target to vaccinate one crore people with COVID-19 jabs on February 26 through launching a nationwide vaccination campaign.     

"We will conduct the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination on February 26... a total of one crore people will receive the first dose of coronavirus vaccine," DGHS Director General Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam  told a virtual briefing here today. 

"On February 26, we will complete administering the first dose of vaccination. Afterwards, we will focus on administering second and booster doses," he added.   
Referring to a study on coronavirus vaccination, Alam said it (study) found that both fatality and hospitalization of vaccinated people is lower compared to unvaccinated ones. 

He urged the people to receive vaccines to protect themselves from the deadly disease and extend cooperation to make the countrywide February 26 vaccination drive a success.     

The DGHS sources said in January, seventy-three percent COVID-19 deaths were unvaccinated people.

Among the 322 COVID-19 deaths in the month of January, this year, 73 percent were found unvaccinated people.

Of the total 322 fatalities, 234 people were not inoculated while 88 people or 27 percent received vaccines, the DGHS sources said.
