Covid-19 cases cross 62,800-mark in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Feb 11, 2022 (BSS) - The number of Covid-19 cases have crossed the 62,800 mark in all eight districts of Rangpur division where a community spread of the lethal virus continues in recent weeks.

   "The number of Covid-19 cases climbed to 62,819 with diagnosis of 204 new patients after testing 759 samples at the 26.88 percent positivity rate on Thursday," Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam told BSS today.

   Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 27.22 on Wednesday, 27.07 percent on Tuesday 33.05 percent on Monday, 31.73 percent on Sunday, 36.90 percent on Saturday and 26.10 percent on Friday last in the division.

   On Thursday, the daily positivity rate were 28.80 percent each in Rangpur and Panchagarh, 16.40 percent in Nilphamari, 39.70 percent in Lalmonirhat, 26.40 percent in Kurigram, 33.30 percent in Thakurgaon, 24.10 percent in Dinajpur and 18.30 percent in Gaibandha districts.

   "The district-wise break up of total 62,819 patients include 14,634 in Rangpur, 4,302 in Panchagarh, 5,282 in Nilphamari, 3,177 in Lalmonirhat, 4,915 in Kurigram, 8,496 in Thakurgaon, 16,533 in Dinajpur and 5,380 in Gaibandha in the division," he added..

   "Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 casualties remained steady at 1,265 as no more patients died on Tuesday in the division where the average casualty rate now stands at 2.02 percent," Dr. Islam said.

   The district-wise breakup of the 1,265 fatalities currently stands at 295 in Rangpur, 83 in Panchagarh, 91 in Nilphamari, 71 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in Kurigram, 256 in Thakurgaon, 336 in Dinajpur and 64 in Gaibandha of the division.

   "Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,28,718 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 62,819 were found positive with an average positivity rate of 19.08 percent," he said.

   Meanwhile, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 57,092 with the recovery of 339 more patients on Thursday in the division. The average recovery rate stands at 91.03 percent.

   The 57,092 recovered patients include 12,927 of Rangpur, 3,924 Panchagarh, 4,527 Nilphamari, 2,725 Lalmonirhat, 4,625 Kurigram, 7,854 Thakurgaon, 15,395 in Dinajpur and 5,115 Gaibandha districts in the division.

   Among the 62,819 patients, 98 are under treatment at isolation units, including 17 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 57,092 patients and 1,265 deaths while 4,264 are remaining in home isolation.

   "In the meantime, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 1,09,08,743, and among them, 67,98,548 got the second dose and 2,30,224 got the booster dose of the jabs till Thursday in the division," Dr Islam added.

   Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy suggested everyone to sincerely abide by the health directives to contain the community transmission of the Covid-19 virus for remaining safe.
