One more Covid-19 casualty in Rangpur division

 RANGPUR, Feb 9, 2022 (BSS) - One more Covid-19 related casualty was
reported from Nilphamari district during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am
today raising the number fatalities to 1,262 in Rangpur division.

     Health officials said the pandemic situation is showing a mostly stable
trend during the last couple of days as community spread of the lethal virus
is becoming weaker in the division.

     The district-wise breakup of the 1,262 fatalities stands at 295 in
Rangpur, 82 in Panchagarh, 91 in Nilphamari, 70 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in
Kurigram, 256 in Thakurgaon, 336 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha of the
division.

     "The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.03 percent in the
division," Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam Lenin told
BSS today.

     Meanwhile, 226 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed after testing 835
samples at the 27.07 percent positivity rate on Tuesday in the division.

     Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 33.05 percent on
Monday, 31.73 percent on Sunday, 36.90 percent on Saturday, 26.10 percent on
Friday, 38.80 percent on Thursday and 38.98 percent on Wednesday last in the
division.

     "With the diagnosis of 226 fresh Covid-19 cases, the total number of
infected patients has reached 62,282 in the division," Dr. Islam said.

     The district-wise break up of total 62,282 patients include 14,495 in
Rangpur, 4,265 in Panchagarh, 5,243 in Nilphamari, 3,128 in Lalmonirhat,
4,897 in Kurigram, 8,452 in Thakurgaon, 16,449 in Dinajpur and 5,353 in
Gaibandha in the division.

     Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,27,003 collected
samples were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 62,282 were found Covid-19
positive with an average positivity rate of 19.05 percent.

    In the meantime, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 56,492 in
Rangpur division with the recovery of 350 more patients on Tuesday.

     "The average recovery rate currently stands at 90.70 percent," Dr. Islam
said, adding that the recovery rate is showing a rising trend in recent days
in the division.

     Among the total 62,282 patients, 126 are under treatment at isolation
units, including 14 critical patients at ICU beds and six at High Dependency
Unit beds, after recovery of 56,492 patients and 1,262 deaths while 4,402 are
remaining in home isolation.

     "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-
19 vaccine rose to 1,08,81,214 and among them, 67,04,830 got the second dose
and 2,15,688 got the booster dose till Tuesday in the division," Dr Islam
added.

     Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy
said the number of Covid-19 cases is showing a slightly declining trend in
recent days in Rangpur division.

     He especially suggested common people to sincerely abide by the health
directives and hygiene rules to prevent further community spread of the
lethal virus.
