RAJSHAHI, Feb 1, 2022 (BSS)- Around 800 more cold-stricken people were given warm clothes as the gift of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina aimed at lessening their sufferings caused by the present cold weather.

Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton distributed the blankets among the cold-hit people at the city unit office of Bangladesh Awami League today.

Chaired by the city unit vice-president Mahfuzul Alam, the distribution ceremony was attended and addressed, among others, by its general secretary Dablu Sarker and Vice-presidents Shafiqur Rahman, Rezaul Islam and Dr Sheikh Tabibur Rahman.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said the warm clothes were distributed among the marginalized people taking the issue of their sufferings into special consideration.

"We always remained beside the low-income and other underprivileged people to mitigate their problems," he said, adding more support will also be extended to them in the days to come.

Liton also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly for welfare of the people, particularly the disadvantaged ones, amid the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

He also urged the richer sections of the society and other volunteer and philanthropic organizations to stand beside the cold-hit people in the region with helping hands.

Earlier on Monday, around 2,600 pre-primary students and guardians were given warm clothes as the gift of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
