DHAKA, Jan 27, 2022 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC)

Mayor Md Atiqul Islam today said no establishment can be built by
filling any canal in the capital since the Prime Minister has given a
clear instruction in this regard.

  The DNCC mayor made the remarks while running an operation to evict
illegal structures and rescue a canal adjacent to the Kuril Bishwaroad
in the city, said a press release.

  "The canal adjacent to the Kuril Bishwaroad is saving the people
live in the city's Nikunja area from water logging for decades. If it
is filled up, the drainage system of the airport road including the
Nikunja area will be destroyed," Atiq said.

  If needed, legal actions will be taken to protect the 1.84 acres
canal, he added.

  During the drive, a signboard of Millennium Holding Limited, which
was built beside the road without permission, was knocked down.

  DNCC Chief Estate Officer Md Mozammel Haque, Chief Engineer
Brigadier General Muhammad Amirul Islam and local councilors were
present during the eviction drive.
