DHAKA, Jan 25, 2022 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced a youth to life-term imprisonment in a case lodged over rape of a schoolgirl in capital’s Jatrabari Police Station area.

Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 judge AM Julfikar Hayat pronounced the judgment, sentencing Arif to life imprisonment and fined him Taka 20, 000.

The tribunal acquitted three accused Fatema Akter Shanta, Arifa Akter Iti and Shanta’s brother Shipon from the case as the charges framed against them were not proved.

According to the case documents, the victim, student of class 10, was raped at the house of Shanta after making her unconscious by feeding her chocolate laced with sedatives on June 7, 2011. The accused recorded the crime and released the footage on the internet later.

Victim’s father filed the case against the four on August 6, 2011, with Jatrabari Police Station and a charge-sheet was filed against them on December 16, 2011.
