Covid-19 cases reach 57,176 with 285 afresh in Rangpur

 RANGPUR, Jan 25, 2022 (BSS) – The number of Covid-19 cases climbed to 57,176 with the diagnosis of 285 new patients on Monday, the highest number in a day in five months, in Rangpur division.

 
Health officials said the 285 new patients were diagnosed after testing 796 samples at 35.80 percent average daily positivity rate in the division where the number of positive cases continues rising hastily in the last two weeks.
 
Earlier, the average daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 43.57 percent on Sunday, 36.59 percent on Saturday, 22.60 percent on Friday, 28.92 percent on Thursday, 16.31 percent on Wednesday and 21.29 percent on Tuesday last in the division.
 
On Monday, Rangpur recorded 25.50 percent Covid-19 positivity, Panchagarh 37.78 percent, Nilphamari 35.51 percent, Lalmonirhat 40 percent, Kurigram 23.83 percent, Thakurgaon 36.05 percent, Dinajpur 52.27 percent and Gaibandha 32.26 percent.
 
The district-wise break up of total 57,176 patients include 12,917 of Rangpur, 3,913 Panchagarh, 4,600 of Nilphamari, 2,827 of Lalmonirhat, 4,689 of Kurigram, 7,858 of Thakurgaon, 15,399 of Dinajpur and 4,973 of Gaibandha in the division.
 
“Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 related casualties remained steady at 1,253 as no more infected patients died on Monday,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam told BSS today.
 
The average casualty rate stands at 2.19 percent in the division.
 
The district-wise break up of the 1,253 fatalities stands at 293 in Rangpur, 81 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 69 each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram, 256 in Thakurgaon, 333 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha.
   
“Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,14,025 collected samples were tested till Monday, and of them, 57,176 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 18.21 percent in the division,” Dr Islam said.
 
Meanwhile, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 54,632 with the recovery of 40 more patients on Monday in the division. The average recovery rate stands at 95.55 percent.
         
The 54,632 recovered patients include 12,318 of Rangpur, 3,768 Panchagarh, 4,398 Nilphamari, 2,660 Lalmonirhat, 4,537 Kurigram, 7,479 Thakurgaon, 14,633 in Dinajpur and 4,839 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 57,176 patients, 70 are under treatment at isolation units, including 14 critical patients at ICU beds and nine at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 54,632 patients and 1,253 deaths while 1,221 are remaining in home isolation.
 
“In the meantime, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 1,04,39,679, and among them, 62,36,123 got the second dose and 1,32,119 got the booster dose of the jabs till Monday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
 
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Prof. Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy stressed on abiding by the health directives by everyone to contain community spread of the deadly virus.
