1 more die of Covid-19 after 17 days in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Jan 23, 2022 (BSS) – One more Covid-19 patient died on Saturday after  seventeen days since January 5 last raising the total number of casualties to 1,253 in Rangpur division.
 
“The casualty was reported from Dinajpur in the division where the pandemic situation continues to deteriorate in the last two weeks,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam told BSS today.

The district-wise breakup of the 1,253 fatalities currently stands at 293 in Rangpur, 81 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 69 each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram, 256 in Thakurgaon, 333 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha of the division.

The average casualty rate stands at 2.21 percent in the division.
 
Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 cases rose to 56,637 with the diagnosis of 165 more patients after testing 451 samples at the positivity rate of 36.59 percent in the division on Saturday.
 
Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 22.60 percent on Friday, 28.92 percent on Thursday, 16.31 percent on Wednesday, 21.29 percent on Tuesday, 17.96 percent on Monday and 19.76 percent on Sunday last in the division.
 
“The district-wise break up of total 56,637 patients include 12,773 of Rangpur, 3,877 Panchagarh, 4,545 of Nilphamari, 2,798 of Lalmonirhat, 4,679 of Kurigram, 7,791 of Thakurgaon, 15,232 of Dinajpur and 4,942 of Gaibandha in the division,” Dr. Islam said.
 
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,12,646 collected samples were tested till Saturday, and of them, 56,637 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 18.12 percent in the division.
 
At the same time, the number of healed Covid-19 patients rose to 54,505 with the recovery of 41 more patients on Saturday in the division.
 
The average recovery rate currently stands at 96.24 percent in the division.
         
The 54,505 recovered patients include 12,304 of Rangpur, 3,735 Panchagarh, 4,374 Nilphamari, 2,640 Lalmonirhat, 4,537 Kurigram, 7,476 Thakurgaon, 14,632 in Dinajpur and 4,807 Gaibandha districts in the division.
 
Among the total 56,637 patients, 45 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 12 critical patients at ICU beds and three at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 54,505 patients and 1,253 deaths while 834 are remaining in home isolation.
 
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 1,02,70,888 and among them, 61,69,164 got the second dose and 1,16,600 got the booster dose till Saturday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
 
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy said the pandemic situation is again deteriorating rapidly during the last two weeks in Rangpur division.
 
“The number of Covid-19 cases is increasing hastily in the division,” he said, and urged everyone to sincerely abide by the health directives to prevent community spread of the lethal virus amid detection of its new Omicron variant.
